Mahanta Sri Sri Nanda Nandanananda Deva Goswami Prabhupada
Born on the 20th of the Chaitra month of 1883 AD. He became the thirteenth Mahanta of the Sri Sri Shyamanandi Gaddi at the age of 16 on 20th Pausha, Tuesday in 1900 AD, when his father, Mahanta Sri Sri Sarveshvarananda Deva Goswami Prabhupada, passed away. As he was minor, his grandmother, Srimati Kanchana Devi Mata Goswamini who was the disciple of Srimati Kumkuma Devi Mata Goswamini, became his guardian and assumed the responsibility to the service to the Deities. She also became his initiation guru.
On the 30th of the Vaishakha month of 1904 AD, he married Srimati Annapurna Devi, eldest daughter of Sri Nrisimhacharana Dasa kanungo of Udangi near Remuna. Keeping himself as a sevayat, he managed to improve significantly the situation of all temples and Mathas under the Sri Sri Shyamanandi Gaddi and thus contributed to expansion and improvement of the whole Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya. Before him, temple (called- Devottar or the Lord's) properties were under debt, but thanks to his expertise, he was able to repay more than one hundred thousand rupees to clear all debts. Todate, twenty-six of the poems composed by him have been located. His children were- Srimati Ratna Manjari, Sri Sri Govinda Gopalananda Deva, Srimati Rupa Manjari, Srimati Rasa Manjari and Sri Sri Gopala Govindananda Deva.
He entered the eternal pastimes at the age of 54 on the 31st Bhadra on Thursday at 9 p.m. of 1937 AD (Sri Vamana Dvadashi), in Baripada, Odisha.
He had once said that after his demise people would know the glory of the loin cloth (Koupin) he was wearing. His words proved true. On his cremation pyre, to the astonishment of everybody present, his loin cloth did not catch fire.
